RHFC Fundraiser Series

This fall, the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign is launching a series of fundraisers for its Congolese partners operating in eastern Congo. Every other month, we will spotlight one of our partner organizations and hold a benefit on their behalf here in Washington D.C.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please join us by hosting a fundraiser in your own community. Our partner organizations are carrying out life-saving work in eastern Congo, and the money we raise can help provide sewing machines, better facilities, equipment, and more for their programs. Additionally, hosting a fundraiser is a great way to raise awareness about the crisis in Congo, which is a crucial step in building the movement of activists for peace in Congo.

We will provide you with information about the spotlight partner of the month for whom we are raising funds, as well as additional tips and materials for your event. All you have to do is gather friends and family and provide them with the opportunity to support the work of these organizations. There’s no cookie cutter event for this effort. You can host a small gathering of friends and family at your home, or you can host a big event at a restaurant or other venue in town and invite the whole community. Whether it’s a cocktail party, community yard sale, house screening of a documentary about Congo, or lemonade stand in your neighborhood, every little bit that you raise will make a world of difference to these organizations.

So please help raise funds, raise awareness and raise hope for Congo!

Thanks for your help! We raised over $3,000 for our first spotlight partner, Actions for the Welfare of Women and Children in Kivu (ABFEK). ABFEK was founded in 2007 by Amani Matabaro. Based in Bukavu, the district capitol of South Kivu, ABFEK currently spearheads two programs:

1. The Kivu Sewing Workshop for the Welfare of Women, which was created to provide an opportunity for survivors of violence and rape to rebuild their lives on a foundation of hope, dignity, and economic self-sustenance. During an eight-month program, students learn to sew, knit and embroider, and eventually acquire the skills and capacity necessary to work on their own as seamstresses who can provide for themselves and their families.

2. Education Assistance for Children, which partners with local school headmasters to identify andKivu Sewing Workshop provide financial and social support to vulnerable children who are unable to afford school fees. The program also works with the school headmasters to sensitize the families and host families of the children, many of whom are disabled and/or orphaned, about the kind of support and assistance they should be providing to these children.

Please stay tuned for our next fundraiser!

CAP/Enough reserves the right to modify any restriction on the distribution of funds to a specified organization if in CAP/Enough's judgment, such restriction becomes, in effect, unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment, or inconsistent with CAP/Enough's charitable purpose. We will notify donors if funds are re-directed.

Give a Presentation
If you are hosting an event, you might consider giving a brief presentation about the crisis in Congo, the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign, and the spotlight partner organization. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a long presentation, but it’s important to let guests know why they are there and how they can get involved. You should also allow time for discussion amongst the group, as this often generates lots of great ideas for next steps and partnership.

You can also provide visuals. If you have multimedia capacity, show the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign video or one of the short multimedia tools. Also, feel free to use the RAISE Hope for Congo partner slideshow to better acquaint your guests with the organization they are donating to.
