Today Secretary of State Clinton released a positive statement outlining the U.S. Government's ongoing commitment to ending the violence in eastern Congo and clamping down on the illegal trade of conflict minerals that continue to fuel this violence. She cites the Congo Mineral Provision of the Wall Street Reform bill as one important aspect of this strategy.

Activists and supporters who have spent months lobbying for the US to make a commitment to ending violence in eastern Congo woke up to good news yesterday as the Congo Mineral Provision of the Wall Street Reform package made the front page of the Washington Post.

Last week Enough and activists around the United States applauded the Senate’s passing of the Wall Street Reform bill which included language that will help curb the trade in conflict minerals that are fueling the ongoing conflict in eastern Congo, the deadliest in the world. Today President Obama signed that bill into law, reinforcing the U.S. commitment to bringing peace to eastern Congo.
