Speakers' Tour: RAISE Hope for Congo...On the Road

Help us raise awareness about the crisis in Congo by signing up to bring the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign to your campus.

Apply now! Spring 2010 application now available.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

What is it?

In October 2008, the Enough Project partnered with STAND - the student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network - to launch a nationwide speakers tour of college campuses and high schools to educate students about the conflict minerals trade in eastern Congo, the resulting epidemic of sexual violence against women and girls, and how they can be a part of the solution that will bring lasting peace to this central African nation.

Potential speakers will include the Enough Project Co-founder John Prendergast, as well as prominent experts, journalists, and Congolese activists. Past speakers have included Jimmie Briggs, Lisa Shannon, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Dr. Roger Luhiriri. The event will also include video clips of interviews from the field and messages from celebrities and other spokespeople.

How much will it cost?

The tour can consist of anywhere from 1-4 speakers, and the cost varies depending on the location of your school, the speakers, and the date. The RAISE Hope for Congo campaign's goal for the tour is to raise awareness on as many college campuses as possible, and if your university could underwrite the costs associated with travel and lodging for our speakers, you would help make this possible. All selectees must obtain sponsorship from their universities and apply for funding to help underwrite the costs of the tour. We recommend asking an academic department, such as African Studies, Women's Studies, or International Relations, or your student affairs office. Additionally, since you are most familiar with your campus surroundings, we are asking for your assistance in making the proper travel and accommodation arrangements for the speakers.

What support will I get from The Enough Project and STAND?
The Enough Project will line up the speakers and help you arrange their travel needs. You will also be provided with an event-planning checklist and toolkit to help walk you through the process. Enough and STAND will work with you to advertise the event to the press.
